Nintendo should update the game to fix the missing slider. As you can change the appearance of the main character mid-game, it would be possible to fix existing saves which are already many hours into the game without the need to start from scratch.
It is absolutely not OK to treat adult gamers like kids and everybody who oopses censorship should complain about it loudly. That not only provides free advertising to the game due to increased public awareness, it also forces Nintendo to take action and restore the feature.
