In case you didn't know, later version of the games often contain those day one patches and more recent patches on disk. also from experiance it's not really hard to find patches for older games. you got a bunch of gaming sites that keep them or sites that are dedicated to that purpose. It's only a problem if you don't really want to make an effort to play your old games 25 years from now.
