Some other things: why aren't we counting Pokémon Yellow to the sales of Red/Blue/Green? The changes were only minor, and nothing substantial was added to the gameplay.
And what about the other incarnations of Tetris? How do we tell if a version is a remake of the original or an entirely new Tetris?
Does anyone have any comment on Yellow/Crystal/Emerald sales? Are those legitimately the same games as the ones before? Like basically a "special edition" with a fairly limited amount of new content? I always assumed they changed things up at least a little bit more than the ones that came out concurrently.
As for Tetris, the "original" Tetris for GB and NES, plus the color remake for GBC are essentially the same game, but most of the other versions add a bunch of new playmodes.
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
