I would call Trine 2 or Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze as 2.5D but not Mario 3D World. (although DKC:TF has some levels where the camera plane changes)
Unless you use an ortographic perspective or your camera is restricted to an plane, it's not a 2D (or 2.5D) game.

[2.5D is] "used to describe either 2D graphical projections and similar techniques used to cause a series of images (or scenes) to simulate the appearance of being three-dimensional (3D) when in fact they are not" [1]
The term "2.5D" is also applied to 3D games that use polygonal graphics to render the world and/or characters, but whose gameplay is restricted to a 2D plane. [1]
