He's showing off his gains because he wants to be the next hero in a game series like the Legend of Zelda. Ironically, a pink bunny is playable in LTTP so that may have been a reference.
That bunny is actually a really fun character too. His animation and expression is as detailed as the dog in Rusty's Baseball except he doesn't give you sob stories about his financial state. You can check it out in GameXplain's game preview of it:
