I don't know if I'm getting too old or something, but I seriously don't care about tech anymore. If a game is any good, I will play it on 540p with 25 fps and I wouldn't even care. I would also never play a shitty game despite 8K resolution and 120 fps.
About 1080p standards: Let the devs decide about it. It's their game, so I'll stick with whatever they think is best. They are the developers after all. I, personally, don't know shit about all tech behind that stuff or how to design or program a game.
