Nintendo NEEDS to make Punch Out a fighting game to compete with Tekken and SF

Why do they need a fighting game to compete with tekken and street fighter though? If anything they need a huge FPS to compete with Halo. I remember the glory days when Nintendo were kings of Console shooters.
