I feel like this being a trilogy was discussed around the launch of 4. I think a lot of people coming into Halo 5 were aware of this.

I guess the line of cliffhanger gets a little hazy with something like TLoU. But I'm gonna assume the sequel will pick up after that. It was designed to be a series.

I read up on it, and it looks like there was indeed supposed to be a Halo trilogy, starting with Halo 4. Halo 5 is supposedly the second game in that trilogyt. But MS changed the classification from "trilogy" to "saga" now, not limiting themselves to only three games any more.

Was TLOU designed to be a series though? I've read some interviews about it from Naughty Dog, and they're things like this:

“If you’re asking about a sequel … right now I’d say it’s 50/50.
We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP — we’ve spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP. So we have to get some good steps and see… It’s kind of like how we approached Left Behind. Can we tell people a story that’s really worth telling, and that’s not repeating itself? And if we can’t, where can we get inspired — what is something that’s really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?"

"In an interview with OPM (via GamesRadar), Druckmann admitted ideas were being tossed around for a potential Last of Us sequel before he and game director Bruce Straley were moved onto the Uncharted 4 project."

Oh right, I forgot about the saga thing. Hopefully they limit this story to a trilogy. I don't want this series to become another Assassin's Creed.

Regardless of what they say, this is the same studio that made Crash, Jak and Daxter, and Uncharted a long running series. Was the plan to do a single The Last of Us? I doubt it. Especially given how well it sold.
