As expected, I think that would be the best way to summarise it.
Nothing really amazed me in the first year although I was impressed with the visuals of inFamous: Second Son and Killzone ShadowFall was OK. Some of the games I played were fun or incredibly well put together, but nothing ground breaking. This is typical for the first year of a new console generation though as most devs are still transitioning and are still making cross-gen titles or remastering older games. Destiny and Watch Dogs had a lot of promise but essentially fell short of the marketing hype.
More recently, Metal Gear Solid V, Witcher 3, Bloodborne and Dragon Age Inquisition have been very impressive. We're starting to see what this gen is really about in these titles but there's still room for improvement. We also have an awesome looking Star Wars game, a new Halo and Fallout 4 still to come this year. Impressive stuff, but I expect to be impressed; devs making better use of the hardware and demonstrating a significant improvement over previous gen.
Next year is when we really see developers really start to stretch their skills to make use of the hardware on offer. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Uncharted 4, Final Fantasy XV (hopefully), No Man's Sky, Mirror's Edge and the start of console VR. All these should really show what this gen is about.
So, like a typical console gen.
