But honestly, the NX should not launch next year. They should wait till 2017. If they push it out next year, I have a strong feeling it's going to be a Sega Saturn type of situation, where they just don't have enough ready, third parties don't have enough ready (if they even make anything to begin with), etc. If they wait to launch in 2017, even if it's like a spring launch, I think it would give them more time to make SURE they have a strong launch lineup, but also a steady flow of games after the fact. |
NX absolutely needs to release holiday 2016, all of Nintendo's major studios next releases are on track to release between 2016-2018. If many of those titles are late 3DS/Wii U projects than NX will have a horrible post-launch lineup and software output.
EAD Group 1-releases a new MK roughly every 3 years. DS-2005, Wii-2008, 3DS-2011, Wii U-2014. They are also able to work on smaller projects in between like Nintendogs or DLC.
EAD Group 2-released Animal Crossing/Nintendo Land during holiday 2012 then Happy Home Designer/Splatoon in mid-2015, next projects will likely be late 2017-1st half 2018
EAD Group 3-we know Zelda U is coming next year, if that's not cross-gen it will be at least 2020 before NX gets a Zelda title. They also go about 2-3 years between 2D Zelda (PH-2007, ST-2010, LBW-2013, TFH-2015) a new 2D Zelda in 2018 is possible.
EAD Group 4-New Super Mario Bros U released in 2012 with Super Mario Maker in 2015, Pikmin 3 released in 2013 with Pikmin 4 in 2016 being likely so about 3 years between projects for them. The next 2D Mario, whether it be more like NSMB or SMM or perhaps a mix of the 2, should release in 2018. Pikmin 4 may be a late Wii U title or a launch window NX title.
EAD Tokyo-releases console 3D Mario about every 3 years (Galaxy-2007, Galaxy 2-2010, 3D World-2013) with a smaller project in between (3D Land-2011, Captain Toad-2014) so a new 3D Mario as a big launch game to go with Zelda would be huge with a smaller spinoff title releasing the following year.
Retro Studios-releases a new title about every 3-3.5 years (Prime 3-Aug 07, DKCR-Nov 10, DKCTF-Feb 14) so a new project in mid-2017 is very likely.
Intelligent Systems-last 3 Fire Emblem releases were about 3.5 years apart so the next one in late 2018 is likely with a western localization in 2019. Codename STEAM released in spring 2015 so they can probably get a new project out in 2017 or 2018, perhaps they return to Paper Mario series and a new Pushmo can probably release around that time as well.
ND Cube-Wii Party U & Mario Party 3DS released in late 2013 with Mario Party 10 in early 2015 and Amiibo Festival coming next month, 2016 will probably be an off year then a new party game in 2017.
Hal Laboratory-Return to Dreamland released holiday 2011, Triple Deluxe in January 2014, Rainbow Curse in Feb 2015. 2016 off year followed by a new Kirby in 2017.
Game Freak-Pokemon Z is most likely releasing for 3DS next year but new generations have consistently released every 3-4 years (1996, 1999, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2013) Pokémon Gen 7 for Holiday 2017.
Sora/Sakurai-developed Smash 4 in under 3 years so if they get started on Smash 5 shortly after finishing DLC than they can probably get it out for Holiday 2018.
A first 2 years that looks like this is possible and would be awesome
November 2016-Legend of Zelda/3D Mario
February 2017-Kirby
March 2017-Mario Party
May 2017-Mario Kart
August 2017-Retro Project
October 2017-Pokemon Gen 7
November 2017-Paper Mario
December 2017-Animal Crossing (Japan only)/Captain Toad 2
March 2018-Splatoon
June 2018-Animal Crossing (West)
July 2018-Fire Emblem (Japan, 2019-West)
September 2018-2D Mario
October 2018-2D Zelda
November 2018-Smash Bros
