Ιf Nintendo doesn't broke the trend, teasing in the third year of the predecessor,announcing at E3 in the 4th year of the predecessor and releasing after one year/in the 5th year of predecessor, then we will have it until then... So far they haven't broken it and I don't seeing them doing it, but you never know...
I don't believe that NX will launch in 2016 but I can't be confident about that and rule it out at all (still I have a good rationalization about my expectation), anymore.
As for the yoy change... It's not about games now, as nintendo keeps dogmatically thinking, they have threw all of their aces, now it's time for a price drop (wii u for what it is/have been/provides is considered as expensive) or killer bundles at least!
Boost by game releases might work only for Japan now, as splatoon did and they have upcoming games that are really cater to Japanese tastes in general but for the west...
Everywhere? Lets pray for NA/USA because wii u in Europe/Japan is on par with gc, so not bad, but in the NA/USA it's a massacre, mainly because gc had two huge price cut in its first to years and sold fast. Price drop effect in the USA had always been strong,no matter what are the final sales are.
In the FY15Q1 WII U shipments in NA,were down by 90k, same quarter, while they were up by 90k in Japan, due to splatoon.
And it seems that they will be again up,by 116k for the past FY quarter compared to same quarter last year, thanks to splatoon+super mario maker
