honestly as long as there is no prejudice going on in terms of hiring people then it should be irrelevant if the percentages of male/female, black/white, whatever are even in film
in the end the best person for the role should get hired
if 10 super hero movies come out that all are based on iconic male superheroes then it would extremely trivial and stupid to change all of the leads to females simply to make sure that there was an equilibrium of male and females in starring roles
when you reach the point that politically correct 'fair' desires are damaging how roles are written and not necessarily giving the job to the best person suited for it then that's a problem
I like seeing movies with chicks as the lead and I like seeing movies with all sorts of races but almost worse than having NO diversity is having TOO much diversity for the simple fact that it becomes very apparent and distracting in entertainment
no one should be watching a film and notice that there is a room full of people with 1 white, 1 black, 1 Japanese, 1 Mexica, etc. etc. etc. just to fill a quota. that's when things have gone too far. same applies in terms of male/female casting. in the end if the role is suitable or the story fits or that's what people want to see then, great, but simply doing something to be 'fair' in a competitive business is absurd
