There's no contest on the Democrat side, and if you get them you get complete deadlock in Congress plus the same failing policies as today, OR on the Republican side you get hard right policies based on rhetoric and fear. Even the "socialist" candidate isn't remotely left-wing. |
It's kinda funny that the 'socialist' candidtate is basically the same as the old Republican Teddy Rosevelt. Some of his 'left wing' platfom:
Party’s platform, titled “A Contract With the People,” was considered a dangerously radical, socialistic, document by the mainstream GOP and many Democrats. The party’s call for social reforms included:
- A National Health Service
- Social insurance, to provide for the elderly, the unemployed, and the disabled
- An eight hour workday
- A federal securities commission
- Workers’ compensation for work-related injuries
- An inheritance tax and a constitutional amendment to allow a Federal income tax
- Strict limits and disclosure requirements on political campaign contributions
- Registration of lobbyists
- Recording and publication of Congressional committee proceedings
