Regardless, messing with established tropes of a series is asking for trouble. Star wars was a series of movies that appealed to a certain audience. To try and be all avangarde about it to try and target new audiences or social fighters aprovals while forsaking the old one is asking for trouble. See how that went with Mortal Kombat. They forsake popular characters to make a generic and forced group of kids for new generations to find cool.
I don't know what those audiences thought, but i find those things really forced. They ruin established series. I am thinking the same will happen with Star wars and that makes me sad.
