The Gap between PS3 and Xbox 360

Things are looking good for the PS3 battling the 360.

Already the PS3 is now on par with the 360's install base for Europe and is greatly outselling its competitor. The PS3 outsold the 360 to retail in total sales despite the more than 16 months headstart. The PS3 is outselling the 360 despite twice the entry pricing (399 vs 199 Euro).

I expect the release of MGS4 to have a profound impact worldwide, this will likely enlarge the gap of the PS3 outselling the 360 in all regions and very importantly revive the platform for Japan where the 360 is on braindead life-support.

Holiday 2008 sales should of course significantly enlarge this gap. I also expect a likely PS3 pricecut this year to have a far more profound impact than the recent 360 pricecut had on European sales.
