Guy leaves a girl thats that thoughtfull and romantic? hes made a bad choice, which he lateron comes to regret.

That's what makes it so funny. The first part is romantic and cute, it then gets sad, then the funny line in the end gets a lot more impact because it's so surprsing,  which made it even funnier.
