We already have HW numbers up to 29 August. So my question is will we have to wait for SW to catch up to HW (i.e. wait 2 months, from now) for the first September hardware numbers?

Question: Will we get October NPD results before VGC posts it's first September week numbers?

Given the huge lag between hardware and software reporting, it's clear software estimation is becoming increasing difficult and I think a change-up is required on that front. Software should be reported on a monthly basis only with the only weekly report being estimates for sales of newly launched games. The tracking should remain weekly, but reporting should only be monthly. Then, hardware can be reported weekly with much less lag time.

I was just about to post a goodbye thread, well I was going post a goodbye if VGC doesn't post new numbers by 17 October (which would have made it one month since the previous update) thread . I guess I won't be saying goodbye for now. But I am losing interest in this site if it continues to lag in its numbers to this extent. It's coming to the point where we are getting more frequent sales data from more accurate sources (NPD and quarterly company reports), and once we start getting that more reliable data quicker than what VGC puts out it makes VGC irrelevant as a sales tracking website. It is looking almost certain that we will get the quarterly reports before VGC has all of the Sept quarter posted.

ioi will probably wait until SW catch up with HW, indeed.

I was actually also thinking about leaving, but I really enjoy watching the conferences with the guys here, E3 and TGS were great times, and we are about to have PGW and then PSX... so I'll be sticking until the end of the year at least I guess, maybe it makes me want to keep coming back, but it's really getting boring around here, it's sad to be thinking about leaving when there are people who I like here as well, though.

It would be better for me if I did leave. But sales numbers are like crack for me (not who is winning / losing, but just the playing around in the data), so it would require some major cold turkey for me to leave permanently. This year has taken me pretty much right to the edge of getting weaned off the sales, but every time I get to that jumping off point some numbers get posted and I get a shiff of that crack again and can't leave. But with every long delay between updates it becomes easier and easier to let go. If we get most of the way through November without full September data being posted I will pretty much wean myself off VGC completely, though I am likely to pop back in for NPD and quarterly reporting times just to keep my hand in.

It would surprise me a great deal if VGC was attracting new members in anything other than a trickle. If I had started lurking now instead of 7 years ago I would never have signed up, because what's the value of 2 month old data, when you want to know what's happening now?
