HoloDust said: Not really the games I was referring to - I don't agree all of those games are boring, though, it's true that most of them are but a shadow of either their predecessors (Skyrim being probably the worst offender) or games they are copying. Few of us around here who played Gothic 1/2 and who are fans of Pirhana Bytes know what I'm talking about, but, honestly, one really needs to have played those games to understand that balance between open world and narrative has already been done properly in fully 3D worlds - just not in mainstream RPGs, I suppose. Anyway, wasn't really talking about copy/pasting designs of any particular game, more about taking some pointers in some aspects - though, IMO, they would have to go some 10-15 years back, when Western devs were making RPGs primarily for RPG fans, not for mainstream audience. But, eventually, I'm hoping they'll surprise us all with someting new and fresh. |
I haven't played those so I can't comment, but I doubt he's played anything but the most mainstream open worlds. He's played Skyrim. Zelda isn't an RPG, so it shouldn't be taking open world tips from those either.
