It's a perfectly natural reaction. When I look at the Japanese market, I ask myself "how is this going to affect MY gaming preferences?". It's a valid question since so many of the games I loved came from Japan. It doesn't mean I hate the direction they're going or think they're stupid for changing preferences, it's just a very weird transition we're seeing and the overall gaming community is going to be affected by it. Besides, this is one topic and how it is treated that REALLY bothers me on VGChartz. Just as it's okay to like puzzle and sim games with lesser technical specs, it's perfectly all right to ask for cutting-edge graphics, physics, AI, etc. We all like different games and in many of cases, our tastes bleed into one another (I'm still a sucker for 2D side scrollers, it's the entire reason I bought a DS while I think the MP game is rubbish). Nothing wrong with that. I don't understand why people have to niche themselves constantly. It's as if they're just looking for someone to hate or they're looking to have a feeling of belonging. There doesn't have to be a line drawn in the sand. Some games I want to showcase stunning graphics. Others, I couldn't care less. The one common theme they need is good gameplay. |
Yep, I totally agree with this.
It's one thing if someone says: "Graphics are everything! Your little Wii games are nothing!" which is extreme, but actually does parallel the opinions of some of the people on this board. Those people deserve to get slammed.
However, saying: "I personally care about graphics" is a whole lot different, yet people often treat it in the same manner they treat the trolls that subscribe to the former belief. I'm with you on this one, many people jump the gun on this, and lump anyone who cares even remotely about graphics into the same "raging fanboy" category. Totally unfair.
So I can certainly see where some frustration would come from.
