Don't think many people have a fire extinguisher just lying around in their house though...

In Norway owning a fire extinguisher is actually mandatory.

Aye gotta have it here in Ireland too as a part of equipment provided by landlords in rented accomodation, and a fire blanket too. Would have really helped this go out in an instant.
