I don't mind long and complex (many writers have done that before) but just reading Avengers (not New), with characters that didn't fit and a weird plot line mainly in space with god (not just Thor god like, I mean Universal gods) characters and New Universe characters mixed in, it just didn't feel right. At least when Bendis wrote it and before with Busiek, it felt like an Avengers book. Keep in mind, I do not feel serial comics do not suit Hickman's style, he jumps around too much in time meaning a non-TPB story writen by him can seem confusing if you only read it month to month. |
I read the bulk of the story on Marvel Unlimited, so until the last few issues, I was reading them in relatively short order. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it more.
I agree that it felt less like Avengers than previous runs, but that's kind of why I liked it. Not that there's anything wrong with the older runs, but when you have series that are going to last decades, it's good to have runs that are unique.
