First off, please let me clarify - the only reason I lumped NX together is because apparently it will be a unified platform, which means it will be replacing the 3DS and the Wii U simultaneously, putting it in a unique circumstance. If the NX turns out to only be a home console or handheld then of course it would make no sense to combine the sales for comparison.

Let me construct you a timeline on why this only applies to the NX because apparently this must be hard for you to visualize:

Oct 1985 - NES
Apr 1989 - Gameboy
Aug 1991 - SNES

Sep 1996 - N64
Nov 1998 - Gameboy Color (if you want to separate that)
Mar 2001 - Gameboy Advance

Nov 2001 - Gamecube
Nov 2004 - Nintendo DS
Nov 2006 - Wii
Nov 2011 - 3DS
Nov 2012 - Wii U

Bold are handhelds.

So tell me:
Is the Gameboy part of the NES Generation, the SNES or the N64 Generation? it was the flagship handheld during all three.
Is the Gamebou Color part of the N64 Generation? If so does that mean both the Gameboy and the Gameboy color sales count towards this generation? How did you decide that?
Is the Gamboy Advance part of the N64 Generation as Well? Or is it part of the Gamecube generation? It was the flagship handheld for both, but it does line up better with the life of the Gamecube, except for the parts of the Gamecube's life where it was replaced by the DS.
Is the  Nintendo DS part of the Gamecube Generation, or the Wii Generation? It was the flagship handheld offered by Nintendo for both almost equally.
How about the 3DS? The Wii U wouldn't be around for another year after the 3DS came out.

See it's not nearly as clear cut as you're making it out to be. The handheld and home console generations simply do not line up like you want to pretend it does.

I think this image is fitting:

this is the most pathetic argument until now, so if the hanheld is not exactly released the same year Nintendo release the new homeconsole is on a limbo and it doesn´t count for any generation hahahaha, what a way to try to spin reality again, let´s make another list, shall we??

1983 - Nes (First 3th gen console)
1985 - Master System (so it was not released the same year as NES?? 2 YEARS LATER??? OMG what generation is this?? the 3.5 generation?? X,D)

1987 - Turbographx 16/PC Engine (the first 4th generation homeconsole)
1988 - Mega Drive/ Genesis (OMG! a year later!!!! what generation is this??)
1989 - Game Boy (On a limbo because reasons)
1990 - Neo Geo (2 YEARS LATER???)
1990 - Super Nintendo (THIS SHOULD BE ALREADY THE 5TH GEN DOESNT IT??)

1993 - Amiga CD (first 5th gen homeconsole)
1993 - Atari Jaguar
1994 - Playstation (totally not a 5th gen console because it was released 1 year later....)
1995 - Sega Saturn
1996 - Nintendo 64 ( 5.5 gen?? is 3 years later!!!!!!)

1999 - Dreamcast (first 6th generation homeconsole)
2000 - PS2
2001 - Game Boy Advance ( I wonder where this console fits better.... on the 6th generation? MAYBE???)
2001 - GameCube (2 years later!! It should not bve a 6th gen console at all, doesn´t it?)
2001 - XBOX

2004 - PSP
2004 - Nintendo DS (both released 5 years after Dreamcast but only a few months after X360, what gen are they, OMG!!! Oh wait, they are oficially considered 7th gen consoles because... ALL THEIR SALES AND INFLUENCE WAS IN THE 7TH GEN)
2005 - X360 (first 7th homeconsole)
2006- Ps3
2006 - Wii (one year later OMG)

2011 - PSVITA
2011- N3DS (Oh if they are released 5 years after the X360 and only  months before the WiiU... what gen must be this?? WHAT A DILEMA! except for the fact that everyone counts it as the 8th gen because is so freaking obvious that it hurts)
2012 - WiiU (first 8th gen homeconsole)
2013 - Ps4
2013 - XBO (totally not 8th gen consoles, one year later yo)

Give a freaking break, are you telling me that a console should be released on a specific month of the year to be considered for one gen or another one? Now that´s your ultimate attempt to spin reality, but this time is specially sad. In EVERYWHERE handhelds consoles are counted as a part of every generation, and you go so far in your attempt to spin things that now you are trying to freaking deny this. Pathetic.
