Don't know where you're pulling a Xenoblade delay from but it probably smells like crap there. A lack of info does not mean a lack of progress, and the game has a solid launch date already, something that almost none of the delayed games can claim. Star Fox would be the exception because I BELIEVE they had announced a date just before Mario Maker came out and they delayed it.
As for the second part of your comment, we really didn't get a "sign" of directs often. They were quite often surprises announced less than two days before they were shown.
