Paying $4 for one character in a game with 49 characters is definitely going too far, yes.

This is such a stupid argument.  Last I checked, I paid $59.99 plus tax for the Wii U version not $196 dollars(49*$4).  The $4 dollars you paid is for the work the creators had put into the game.  They didn't have to create it and certainly you didn't have to buy it.  If you're complaining about DLC, then you should complain about the game not being complete, which would be BS because it is complete.
