Nintendo needs to make sure the nx handheld outspecs the vita. If they take all its Japanese games it's done, which is exactly what they need to do to maintain their handheld dominance.

And I say this as someone who actually likes the vita. 

It will have to. Not only mobile components are cheap and powerful nowadays, but If the NX is a hybrid system between home console and handheld, it will need to outspec the WiiU. I don't know if each piece of hardware will have the same specs, but they will probably need to if they want the OS working seamlesly in both devices.
