Yes, but that's a problem too. If they create new IPs to attract that audience, the most probable outcome is that only the Nintendo loyalist will get them. If they get deals with 3rd parties to make exclusive games for their system, most of the bigger publishers will refuse to do it because they fear low sales. And if they just talk to publishers to get regular 3rd parties, most people will just stay on their console, because it already has the games they need.

The most benefitial part of a Fusion system is that will double the 1st party software output. That will help to avoid droughts, but they'll need more help. Fortunately, the NX seems to be the only dedicated 9th gen handheld, so a lot of japanese studios that worked for the PSP/Vita might jump on board, and it will get a lot of ports cattering to the japanese audience.

Not if they did it right. If Nintendo made a western studio and had them make a game like TLOU or Destiny, it would attract the polar opposite audience. That's the issue. Nintendo loyalists aren't interested in those games. Nintendo needs new players who are. And I don't mean 3rd party exclusives. I mean first party exclusives. They don't need franchises that can run away. They need franchises that will stay and be quality. Kojima is free right now. This is the perfect opportunity to get the talent of a man who knows how to make games that appeal to an audience Nintendo doesn't cater to, just as an example. Have him make a new IP for them. Not a knock off MGS either. A bonafied original idea. There's so much talent they could find like that. Ken Levine, too. That's how they make the NX successful.

Contrary to popular belief, Nintendo's biggest issue is appealing to a wide audience.
