The main appeal of the site is the hardware numbers rather than software though, no? So unless Nintendo are making a console that is available via download only...

Definetely true,and the current situation with numbers make lesser and lesser people(even members) visiting the site...

Just see alexa rank,vgc is collapsing, (well you can realize it from views/comments in the threads,some interesting threads flop and some other that in the past would be a rocket,now  are relatively mediocre)...it has fallen even further now,that the weekly chart and global hardware chart don't match with the  latest chart update which include more details,29th of august vs 1th of august and 8th of August for the usa,what a mess...

Sad because when mumbers were up with no or little delay,the site was very high...:P

I thought the site was delaying charts was because ioi was implementing a system to track digital. Because last gen it was already getting big, and from now on the trend is that digital sales has an ever growing market share to the point it gets at least equal with physical. 

 

If Vgchart doens't find a way to track digital, the site will soon become obsolete and the data here will be worth very little.
