Kind've reminds me of the US prior to the Civil War. The majority of the federal government's revenue came from tariffs paid by Southern farmers, yet the far more populous North got to decide where all the money was spent (and decided when to increase tariffs whenever they pleased, like the tariff of 1828).
I say more power to the people of Southern Florida. If the motion passes, then it will prove that Americans have at least some say in how much power the government has these days.
