So annual releases don't have to affect quality, but on the other hand I literally can't think of any other example where games have still been really good despite getting annual sequels. That was a completely different time, in todays industry annual FF's wouldn't be possible like that.
OT: 2-3 years ideally, I don't trust devs to keep up the quality and their games fresh and interesting while on a yearly schedule.
