openGL was fuckup?

yes OpenGl constantly lags in features and performance. They usually eventually catch up but rarely are they leading.

that is all consoles are running on including Xbox One in the earlier games

think you might have to provide a citation for that. Xbox doesn't support and has never had an OpenGL framework written for it to my knowledge.

OpenGL has a problem, really: It's open.

what will be interesting is whether or not they can stop Vulkan suffering the same fate as OpenGL. I am betting that with so many parties and so many agendas and so many platforms involved fragmentation is just about invetiable and then they will be right back in the same leaky boat.

What I want to know is: What exactly is in the Vulkan API. It is to run on a variety of systems, serving a variety of purposes and gpu vendors, from mobile to desktop. What is up to the driver, what is up to the API (Vulkan) and what is up to the OS. If all "customizations" for all the variety is happening in Vulkan itself, this will be a monster to maintain.
