If PS4 goes to $300 permanent this holiday, MS will likely be getting an Xbox Two ready much sooner than we think. I think that's a scenario that Sony is trying to avoid, forcing MS to jump start another gen too early where they can gain ground on them, like last gen. I doubt MS would want to throw in the towel on consoles altogether. I'm sure they still want to associate with gaming to keep the Microsoft brand in the mouths of the younger generation.

Well I can't see an XBTwo launch until 2018 the earliest. MS can still profit from hardware & software instead of risking to jump the gun. & IIRC the PS2 outsold the 360 in its early years.
