U asked how many 2D platformers does Wii U need, well I could easily ask how many first-person shooters or open-world action games do PS4/XB1 need? 2D platformers are popular among Nintendo fans just like those genres are popular among PS/XB fans so they continue to get made, simple as that. Also Yoshi games have sold over 1 million on numerous occasions, same for Mario Tennis, that doesn't mean they will on Wii U but it does show that historically these series have performed well. As for Fatal Frame, ya it's really niche and likely won't sell a ton but that doesn't take away from it being a solid title and one that helps diversify the Wii U library, same goes for Devil's Third (I know this game has gotten mediocre reviews but from the sounds of it the multiplayer is pretty fun). Amiibo have proven to be extremely popular so I wouldn't be surprised to see the Animal Crossing figures sell a ton, also the game is free digitally so if people are buying the Amiibo anyway than its very possible they will download the game as well. Let's be honest, this game is basically meant to sell Amiibo. We could also probably add Fast Racing Neo to the list as this game looks really good and has gotten quite a bit of hype. Also titles that aren't exclusive like Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Lego Dimensions, Just Dance, Guitar Hero could all sell well on Wii U this holiday. Like I said, the loss of Star Fox is a bummer but there is still plenty to choose from this holiday. |
I'm using the size of a game as judgement of how the general public will view the games (they are the ones buying the Wii u for the holiday). Xenoblade X is the only game I (and many others) see to match fallout, halo, witcher, blood borne, cod, etc. in either sales or reviews. Xenoblade is the only game in that list that has a big budget, has a big world, and has a lot of hype to actually drive wii u sales. Does that mean the other games are bad? No, they just won't be selling wii u's any time soon so most people don't include them in the "lineup". And with regards to having "plenty" to choose from, I disagree and think this may be one of the saddest holidays for a nintendo console.
