Aside from Nintendo, it burst long ago. Indie games is where the innovation is these days and really the only place I ever find something that feels fresh.
Nintendo, for some strange reason, is exempt. They have some special voodoo with their games. No matter how many times I play a new Metroid, Zelda, Star Fox or 3D Mario, it feels fresh and magical. I don't know how they do it.
