Yes and by a large margin, at least in the US anyway. BC, brand new UI dedicated to making the system function like a core gaming machine, Halo, better marketing.... it's a different beast than it was last year.

Those first two points don't move hardware in any meaningful way.

As for marketing, it is debatable. They have got Fallout and Tomb Raider,  but have lost Cod and Assassin's Creed. You also have to compare it to the competition. Sony only had GTAV last year for the holidays, and that was a remaster of a one yeae old game. This year they have Battlefront,  Cod and Ass Creed. They will take sales from one another based on these partnerships, and MS does not have the third party advantage it had last year.

I think it comes down to what it always looked like coming down to. Halo 5,  and whether or not there is a price cut.

Exactly.

It is very likely that the Xbox One will sell better than last holidays, but the Ps4 will too. So that will nulify any variation between the two.

And lets be honest, the battlefront and COD partnership is HUUUUGE. I would not be surprised if the Ps4 squeeze an NPD win in one of those holidays months.
