I have to agree with this. As fun as games like the Souls games can be, for example, I would never spend $60 on them due to the way they boil down to trial and error gameplay. I want to know I have a chance on my first shot. Being basically told that you are guaranteed to die a lot in order to learn attack patterns is a very MMORPG Raid style approach to gaming that is hard to appreciate in modern single player gaming. It just feels like a means to artificially lengthening the experience. I mean, I still haven't actually beaten Dark Souls or Dark Souls 2 because I can't help but get frustrated at how much of the experience comes down to repeatedly retrying until you learn precisely where enemy A is going to pop out, and how boss X is going to wreck you unless you dodge at just the right moment.
