What was your first Mario game? When did you first play Mario?

The first I played was Super Mario Bros 3 on NES, yet I haven't bought any Nintendo console before 2004 (I played on Playstation and Sega before). The first Mario games I owned were Mario Sunshine if we count 3D and NSMB on DS If we count 2D.
