I think it should be noted that ARCADE sticks are(or at the very least, were) entirely different than ANALOG sticks.
Arcades may have had a stick that you used to control direction, but those sticks didn't offer varying degrees of direction. Essentially all they did was tack a stick onto a Dpad method of input. There was even an add on for the original gameboy (looked freaking awesome, even if it was bulky as hell) that included a joystick that fit over the Dpad so it was like using a joystick.
