That all started when all companies shoved widescreen HD down our throats. Just for sales. So now people are zombies to it. Instead of going: "You know, 1080p is good enough." So everything will just keep going up and up. Till something fails. Or enough people get bored. Then things will start leveling out. Maybe then, people will allow other stuff to come back.
