Could you link your source. I haven't heard that before. Plus Nintendo has used him in other games, like Superstar Saga.

If you read the credits of Superstar Saga, you'll find this little info: "Regardless of the above-mentioned, the copyright of Geno, reserved by Square Enix, Co. Ltd." Also, his appearance is just a small cameo, and the only one outside of Super Mario RPG
