A9X is double the A8X. Not the A8. Big different because the A8x and A8 differe so much in terms of power. Super impressive chips by Apple year after year. The A9 and the A9x stole the show for me today. |
I see, same cpu as the Iphone 6 then. Thought it would get the chip from the iPad Air 2. That does mean Apple could release a more powerfull version if they wanted to.

So if A9X is 90% better graphics performance, that's about 437 GFLOPS performance, which should pretty handily crush a PS3/360/Wii U at least. Not bad for a mobile component, that's about on par with a Tegra X1, though with Apple's optimization, I wouldn't be surprised if it outperforms it in practice. |
Actually the A8X is already faster than the Tegra K1, and that chip is specified at a maximum of 365 GFLOPS(though that might be at higher clock rates). Since the difference between the A8X and A9X is bigger than the K1 and X1, the A9X in theory should beat the Tegra X1 handily.
If it pulls that off, A9X is probably more in the 600-700 GFLOPS range.
