This, also they probably were holding back on the VC stuff for the handheld for a later handheld device but the 3DS issues early on caused them to acclereate their time table and release those games on the 3DS. The system eventually stablized but the Wii U's massive issues with getting sales probably forced Nintendo's hand to start the conversion of GBA/DS games that they were intending to be a selling point of their next handheld system's VC/eShop on the Wii U to help support it since only Nintendo, with one or two major family multiplatform game port and Indie games were being released on it.

If the Wii U was #1 or #2 selling home console, we probably at best would have only gotten the DS games because of the dual screens.
