Don't give me that.  The Wii U is three years old now.  They could do a $50 price cut now and not be in much trouble or shouldn't be.  And more importantly, they have a number of games out now with great legs, the sales of which - which would be boosted by the sales increase from the price cut - would offset those losses.  Nintendo's just being timid with money, which is part of what got them into this mess to begin with.
