Not sure where these come from and too lazy to look, but the list on Wikipedia misses most sales of the New Super Mario Bros. series at least as is evident from the notes there. Similarly, VGC misses some early games of some series or is proven wrong on others, but anyway, impressive for sure.
Also, I don't think it's wrong to combine all Mario related sales when talking about franchises. The franchise is the all-encompassing thing; 'Mario' is the franchise. 'Super Mario', 'Mario Kart' and 'Mario Party' among others are series within those franchises. If you want to split Mario into sales for several of it's series which you could do, you would, to be fair, also need to do that for Pokémon (seperating the main games from Mystery Dungeon for example), the Wii series (by counting Sports (including Fit with Sports here sparks it's own discussion I guess) and Party seperate), Zelda (discounting Crossbow Training and the other spin-offs from this number) and some others. Then , you're comparing series, not franchises.
