midrange said: 3/10 thus far for wii u. Splatoon, Mario party 10 and kirby do not appeal to me. Mario maker looks great, xeno x seems decent, but the rest of the games really don't seem that great. It's not so much that I hate the games coming out (although nothing too spectacular is coming out), its more so the lack of options/games/genres/variety.
6/10 thus far for 3ds. 3ds has brought out majoras mask, but thus far this year has kinda been subpar. A good amount of games are yet to come though, including third party, so this score may rise later.
Yoshi's Woolly World: 2D platformer (if you like Mario platformers you should like this)
Splatoon: third person shooter
Mario Party 10: party game
Super Mario Maker: level editor (which makes it a totally different beast than Yoshi's Woolly World) anùd 2%D platformer.
Star Fox Zero: on-rails shooter
Fatal Frame V: survival horror game
Fast Racing Neo: futuristic racer
Xenoblade Chronicles X: JRPG
Pretty varied list of games/genres if you ask me... I think your problem is quantity instead of variation in genres.
I'm not into wooly world due to platformer fatigue on wii u. Rayman legends, tropical freeze, new super mario bros u,... it gets harder and harder to find creative platformers after these 3. Mario maker on the other hand is a level editor in the vein of little big planet. That's pretty big.
In terms of genres, we are missing stealth/fighting/driving sim/first person shooter/puzzle/mmo/3d platformer and more. Not only that, but some of those games you mentioned are not heavy hitters. Star fox zero does not look promising. Mario party has gone downhill for most (including me) with the inclusion of the car mechanic. I have never had the slightest idea of fatal frame's existence and would rather buy zombiu first at a cheaper price than fatal frame. Splatoon I just don't find too special to warrant $60.
The problem is both quantity and variation in genres. That's why I gave wii u a 3 and the 3ds a 6.
What good games did the 3DS get this year? I only bought MM 3D.
Why does it matter to this discussion if a game is a heavy hitter or not?
Like I said, the games that did release/are releasing ARE varied, it's the quantity that's lacking.
Splatoon's SP campaign is basically a 3D platformer.
I found NSMBU to be very bland and uncreative btw.
Star Fox is looking a little bit better in the latest footage:
That is not new footage, we already seen that in the treehouse, I made a thread about how beautifull it looks Titania in this game, but people still thinking on Corneria. That is still the half year old build of the game that they presented on the E3, i´m pretty sure the graphics have improved by now.
