This new "gritty" Daredevil is a travesty. I'll take the Marvel approach only because I refuse to like anything that Frank Miller has destroyed.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a "Travesty", I thought it was well done, for the most part. My main complaints with it, beside how foolish it was him being "The masked guy" for the entire first season until the LAST EPISODE (because he literally dons his DD uniform his first time out in the comics), had to do with the way they depicted Kingpin. Wilson Fisk is not some crazy murderer like that. At all. He's not a GOOD guy, by any means, in fact in many ways he's a massive piece of shit as a human being. But his main vices are greed/avarice, and wanting power. He isn't a psycho guy who would smash someone's head in his car. At all.

So while the guy who played him was a good actor, THAT part, and then Vanessa being TOTALLY okay learning that he was a killer who "did bad things for an allegedly good reason", also dumb. His wife Vanessa literally made him choose between her and a life of crime when she finally disovered he was the Kingpin in the comics. And he chose her, moved away, and gave it all up for a long time.

I'll wait to see the second season before judging fully. If you want to criticize taking a hero too "dark and gritty", and kind of totally butchering MANY elements of characters backgrounds, etc., look at "Arrow". In all honesty, after finally bothering to check that show out on NF, it really kind of sucks. The main actor is SO not at all what Oliver Queen is like. There was, in fact, a shitty period in the late 80s of the Green Arrow comics where the writers at the time decided they should make him just use regular arrows and actually kill people. Which was fucking stupid, and they REALIZED that this was fucking stupid, and totally out of character, so by the early 90s they stopped that shit, and went back to him using awesome trick arrows instead. Making Green Arrow a killer, when he's just a likeably swashbuckling kind of guy, has ALWAYS been a big mistake. And the fact of the matter is, not only is the show's portrayal of Ollie ALL WRONG (brooding, super serious, says "This City" like 500 times per episode), but what they do to characters like Huntress, Black Canary, Deadshot, and Deathstroke, is just..................yeah.

Basically what I'm saying is, DD is a much better written, acted, and overall accurate show than Arrow. Yes, it still has it's issues, like Ben Urich being black (though that actor does a really good job), and Matt Murdock not having red hair, but overall, THUS far, the portrayal of Kingpin has been the most glaringly wrong thing they've done. The actor's portrayal of Matt, unlike Arrow's portral of Ollie, is far more spot on as to who Murdock really is. He's a far more likable main character. You want him to win. With Arrow, at least for me, you just kind of get really tired of "Ollie's" shit, and don't care about him or his story all that much eventually. I'm interested enough to at least give Daredevil a chance on it's second season, whereas after finishing almost half of season 2 of Arrow....I'm honestly done with it, there is no reason for me to keep on watching that crap.

We'll see how they do with season 2 in DD though, because with them featuring The Hand and Stick more, and introducing Elektra, etc., there is a LOT more room for them to fuck up.
