I think for superhero stuff, you tend to need CGI for many things. But I've always been of the belief that when you can use practical effects, do so.
Having said that, they're both part of the same continuity. The Netflix shows are just supposed to be part of the "man on the street" kind of heroes, versus the big world-saving heroes. IE "Marvel Knights".
