Well his feelings have changed signficantly over time. Again, I listen to his podcast and he never has anything good to say about Gears other than his love of Horde mode.

He gave Gears 2 and 3 great reviews as well, both of which have Horde mode.

The AI in Gears of War: Ultimate Edition can be profoundly dumb. Your squadmates have a habit of just, like, stopping in the middle of a path and not bothering to catch up, even if you issue any of the game's rudimentary and ultimately meaningless squad commands. I ran into a couple of cases where the enemy AI failed to activate, too, allowing me to just take my time and shoot them in the back. Also, right before theBrumak fight I looked out the door and saw just a skybox. The level took around 30 seconds to draw in. None of that is especially game-breaking, but for a project that specifically exists to kind of clean up an old game, parts of it still feel a little filthy.

Lastly, the campaign runs at around 30 frames per second, but even then it still takes some hits during some of the larger encounters. That it can't even maintain a rock-solid frame rate while also not looking especially great for 2015 seems like pure madness.

t's fun when played with some like-minded and like-skilled individuals, but after all this time the only people who are likely to stick with it are insanely good at it.

He must have absolutely had no reason to dislike the game.  He just isn't a fan of the game anymore...

Or maybe, he had a bad experience with the game.  Even technically different people can have different experiences with the game.  Skyrim for example could have 10 people play it and 9 of them have pretty bad experiences with bugs.  While the 10th guy got super lucky and was going on about how bugless the game was.  That's his right as a reviewer to explain his experiences.

@bold, clearly his love for Gears isn't just predicated on his enjoyment of Horde mode.  Otherwise why did he originally give the game a 9.6/10?

Sure, horde mode might be his absolute favorite, but clearly he enjoyed the game for other reasons.

Sorry, your examples are just nit picking. A few graphical hitches and him sucking at multiplayer arent good excuses for a low score.

He gave Driveclub a 2/5 and people said bullcrap. However, a lot of critics didnt love Driveclub.

With Gears Ultimate, Jeff is the only critic thus far that flatout disliked it.

Frankly, people like you are ignoring all the positive reviews and using the negative as gospel.
