Now it surprisingly seems more a matter of "when" rather than "if".
Mojang probably doesn't like to see Cube Life eating their lunch.
Considering MS didn't yoink the iOS, Playstation, Mac, or Android versions they just as well figure many superfans will end up buying the game on every platform they own.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
