I also preferred Fury Road over the other Mad Maxes, and I'll even add that the original one was my 2nd favorite over Road Warrior. Heck, if it wasn't for them turning Thunderdome into a Peter Pan story in the second half and kept things going as they were from the first half of the film, I would have enjoyed that film more than Road Warrior. Blasphemy, I know, but it's my honest opinion.
I agree with everything Emperorbach wrote previously, and I find it hard to understand the complaints about Max not being the focus or center of the film and people dissing Hardy for not doing much. Max was never driving force of plot in the other films, he always just comes into the plot as a bystander in the other films and is just a reactionary character to what's going on. Also, I doubt it was Hardy's choice to be tied up for half of the film, so if that pisses you off, gripe about the writing. Plus, Max barely speaks in the other movies at all (maybe he gets more lines in the first, though I don't remember for sure), so Hardy having to resort to grunting and moments of silence is in character of Max.
I loved the film so much, it was one of my favorite movies of the year (if not THE favorite). I think it's one of the best action blockbuster films I may have ever seen.
