I saw my wife watching that show a few times. Doh, first thing that came up when I googled him is that's it's fake...
I have my doubts about Alone as well. They told the last guy he won during a 'routine' medical checkup, which they never showed before. Not always alone. Plus no camera battery lasts for 56 days, they had to exchange gear regularly.
Alone left a more positive feeling than Naked & Afraid XL though. Funny the guy from Alone says in the end that humans are a social animal and shouldn't live alone. Then you watch Naked & Afraid XL and umm, go team, ugh.
